Why not Purdah, altogether?

In the Demolition Man, Sly Stallone awakens to find a 21st century where sex is just a thing to be experienced in virtual reality. That salty, sweet food is to be totally abhorred.

If our professors and Vice-chancellors had their way, India would probably embrace at least the former. And everyone would be clothed head to toe. With possible segregation of men and women.

First it was the Anna University that banned cell-phones and imposed a strict dress code, that followed by other Universities banning cell-phones and confiscating them.

Now we learn the Bangalore University is banning guys and girls from sitting next to each other. And also implement a strict “dress code”.

Having been in a college that tried to implement a stupid dress code(and dint implement it, following a hilarious rejoinder from the students), I feel incensed that this happens in a democracy.

The fact of the matter is that the old foggies really dont respect any freedom to the students – and considering that a lot of folks who come to the education line are generally there because they couldnt find any job, makes it worse. The system of education needs an urgent overhaul, but no, we’re more bothered about your clothes.
